Sophie's New ‘Liverpool Icons’ Show Apartment at Tobacco Warehouse is Launched!
A new duplex show apartment at Tobacco Warehouse has been launched, celebrating the building’s incredible Grade II Listed architecture and showcasing carefully curated interior design and furniture by LOFT, while also serving as an exhibition space for the ‘Liverpool Icons’ series of colour-popping digital artworks by local artist-illustrator Sophie Green.
Set over the 1st and 2nd floors of 14-storey Tobacco Warehouse, the 1,141 sq. ft. flexibly arranged apartment is the perfectly sized space for a stylish first step onto the property ladder, or for a savvy investor. Providing a backdrop of Grade II Listed heritage features, a soaring double-height living space, huge industrial-style windows and a contemporary lighting scheme, it’s also ideal for those with a passion for collecting modern art.
Artist-illustrator Sophie Green’s bold, colour-popping work has become synonymous with Liverpool’s creative, uplifting and inclusive spirit, covering queer themes, nature and – as seen here – the city’s unique, extraordinary architectural range. As Liverpool’s most ambitious restoration and residential conversion project, Tobacco Warehouse is now the subject of the latest artwork in Green’s ‘Liverpool Icons’ collection of posters and greeting cards, which feature eleven other unique Liverpool landmarks including the Liver Building, Liverpool Town Hall, Sefton Park, St George’s Hall, Victoria Tower and Bluecoat Chambers.
Tobacco Warehouse was originally added to the series in late 2022, when Green was commissioned to celebrate the showstopping former Victorian warehouse on a postcard for use exclusively by guests of Titanic Hotel across the water. The illustration, dominated by rich reds and blues, later inspired a special limited-edition Christmas card for residents and homeowners at Tobacco Warehouse.
Now blown up to A0 size and framed in black, the original giclée-print image is exhibited to dramatic effect in the new show apartment, along with the other artworks from the series, which are in smaller A1 size, all expertly hung within the home’s voluminous spaces, up the ornate wrought-iron balustraded stairway and on the soaring walls.
Artist-illustrator Sophie Green says: “It is great to see Tobacco Warehouse, the latest addition to my ‘Liverpool Icons’ series, blown up to A0 size and displayed in situ, in all its colour-popping glory. I have had a great response from Tobacco Warehouse residents who have already bought prints of it to hang in their own homes. I am so inspired by the communities in Liverpool, and love to explore the city and its fascinating architecture. I am always on the lookout for the next subject in the series.”
