Liverpool Women’s Hospital ran a competition to redesign their Superlambanana, the brief was ‘International Day of the Girl Child’ and the competition was open to all members of Girlguiding North West England.
International Day of the Girl Child, October 11, supports opportunity for girls and increases awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide based upon their gender.
170 Guides attended the Woman's Hospital to see the winning entry unveiled by Edna Robinson, the Chair of Liverpool Women's Hospital. The winning design by 24th Liverpool Brownies was interpreted and produced by local artist Sophie Green. The design was chosen as it best illustrated girls from different backgrounds and cultures in unity around the world.
Tawny Owl, Caroline Leach said: ‘The 24th Liverpool Brownies were so excited when the Superlambanana was unveiled and they found out that they'd won, it's all they've been able to talk about since. Sophie has done a brilliant job interpreting the design, it looks amazing.’
Artist Sophie Green said: ‘It was a joy to work alongside such an inspirational group of young people and the Liverpool Women’s Hospital superlambanana looks beautiful. I look forward to working with all these wonderful people again on future art projects’
