Sophie's Wild Dolphins set to take over the streets of Aberdeen
Liverpool artist's Wild Dolphins set to be Aberdeen's answer to the Superlambananas
A Liverpool artist has contributed to a project that will see over 50 dolphins dotted around the streets of Aberdeen this summer.
Sophie Green, a freelance artist and illustrator, has painted two dolphins for the Wild Dolphins project, which is similar to Liverpool's Superlambananas and Go Penguins.
The 35-year-old, who grew up in Leicester and moved to Liverpool in 2008, is the only Merseyside-based artist involved with Wild Dolphins.
"I've just finished putting the varnishing on them," says Sophie. "They've been brilliant to work on.
"My studio is like a shop front, so they're always on display. They've been attracting a lot of interest, people are always stopping to look."
Sophie became involved with the project due to her previous work with Wild at Art, where she painted her own designs on Superlambananas and Go Penguins.
"I submitted my design ideas to Wild in Art, who then put the designs out to potential sponsors," says Sophie.
"It was very much a waiting game to see if my dolphins got picked up."
So has she got a favourite dolphin?
"Oh no, I couldn't do that!" she says. "I couldn't possibly decide, they're like my dolphin children!"
Next on the agenda for Sophie is a "books about town" bench for the National Literacy Trust, with a design inspired by the Nick Hornby book Fever Pitch. The bench will go on display in London later in the summer.
"It's been really busy lately," says Sophie. "Things are really starting to pick up, it's been brilliant."
The Wild Dolphins will be on display at Sophie's studio in Gostins Arcade, Hanover Street for the next week or so, until they are collected and taken up to their new home in Aberdeen.
