New Sophie Green exhibition

New Legend at Penny Lane

Penny Lane Gallery will be hosting new work by Liverpool artist & illustrator Sophie Green. The exhibition runs from the 23 November til Sunday 13 January 2013.

Artwork of The Stone Roses, Ian Curtis and John Lennon will be debuted in the artist’s first solo exhibition in the same gallery that has also hosted work by music legends including Will Sergeant of Echo and the Bunnymen and Horace Panter of The Specials.

Also being exhibited is work by Green that that has previously been displayed in galleries throughout the North West.

Green, originally from Leicester moved to Liverpool 5 years ago, where she began to build her career as an Artist and Illustrator. Since the move her reputation in the city and the North West has gone from strength to strength producing work for an extremely diverse client base.

Sophie's artwork is influenced by bright, joyful colour, and finding pleasure in the mundane. Her characterful artwork reflects an obsession with cats, dogs and Superlambananas.

Sophie Green said: "I take great inspiration from the city and consider myself an honorary scouser so exhibiting my work at Penny Lane Gallery is a huge honour. For a young gallery it’s already put on some great exhibitions by some of the music world’s finest artists and I'm pleased to be joining them. The launch event on the 22nd November is sure to be a great night!"

Christine Colvin, Director of Penny Lane Gallery said: "I've been a fan of Sophie's for some time and was really keen to give her a solo exhibition of her work. Her work is diverse, from her endearing Tea and Toast paintings to her more recent illustrations of music legends I’m sure there will be something here for everyone.”

Since living in the city Sophie Green has produced illustration work for many high profile local clients including Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and the London 2012 Olympics.

Green’s recent work for Alder Hey was to create an illustrated booklet to reassure children who were going into hospital for an uncomfortable procedure. Since the booklet was produced her cheerful and endearing illustrations have helped to reassure many anxious children and help with any questions they may have.

Sophie Green also successfully designed two winning designs for the London 2012 Olympics art trail. Green was commissioned to design and paint official Games mascots Mandeville and Wenlock for trails around the capital. Since London 2012, her mascots have since been auctioned raising almost £15,000 for the Lord Mayor's Fund for London.
